Making tuyere (air pipe) from clay. Inner diameter cm Blocking up doorway Positioning tuyere at 15 degree downward angle Tuyere nose sticks into furnace Bog ore formation about 1 km further down the creek Ore roasting Crushing ore to a powder Wood for the furnace (no charcoal was used in this experiment) Furnace stacked and lit from the top The tall furnace draws a strong natural draft. Adding wood and ore Fuel bed can be seen through the tuyere. Estimated at least 1200 c if not higher. After an hour and a half total, it was left to burn dow...

Is Reality Real? The Simulation Argument

Image
We humans are unable to experience the true nature of the universe, unfiltered. Our senses and brains can only process a fraction of the world. So we have to use concepts and tools, to learn about the true nature of reality Technological progress not only widened our knowledge about the universe, it also made us aware of unsettling possibilities. In the future, it might become possible to simulate entire universes. But if this is an option, how can we know that it’s not already happened? What if we are not creators, but creations? Is it possible that we are not real, and we don’t even know it? If our current understanding of physics is correct, Then, it’s impossible to simulate the whole universe, with its trillions and trillions of things. But we don’t actually need to, anyway. We only need enough universe to fool the inhabitants of our simulation, into thinking that they’re real. Who needs billions of galaxies? We only need the space our subjects are allowed to explore. The vast...

Yoga For Complete Beginners – 20 Minute Home Yoga Workout!

Hey everyone. Welcome to Yoga with Adriene. I am Adriene, and I am super-excited because today we have a sequence for the complete beginner. If you’re new to yoga or you’ve been curious about yoga practice and all its wonderful beautiful benefits, this is a great sequence for you. You don’t need any blocks, you don’t need any blankets; all you need is your body and an open mind. If you have a mat that’s great, but otherwise, open mind, open heart. Let’s get started. OK, my friends and my new friends, we’re going to begin in a cross-legged position we call this Sukhasana, or the easy pose, the pose of ease. Take a second here to check in with the breath by maybe looping the shoulders a couple times forward, up, and back. Inhale looping forward, exhale grounding down and back. Just finding a little organic movement, and then maybe checking in with the neck by maybe just moving one ear over one shoulder. Then we’ll go forward into chest, shaking the head, yes and no. Coming back to c...
